KOSPI jumps more than 2 percent early, hits record intraday high and touches 6,780
South Korea\'s KOSPI surged more than 2 percent in early trading on May 4, setting a new record intraday high and touching the 6,780 level. The index was up 156.52 points, or 2.37 percent, at 6,755.39 as of 9:04 a.m., after opening at 6,782.93. Foreign investors were net buyers, while individuals and institutions sold. The won strengthened against the dollar.

South Korea\'s KOSPI reclaimed the 6,100 level on April 15, pushing total market value back above 5,000 trillion won. As of 9:25 a.m., the combined market capitalisation of KSE-listed firms stood at 5,025.96 trillion won, up by more than 1,300 trillion won from the previous day. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix together accounted for about 41.54 percent of the KOSPI\'s total value.
