Forecasts that XRP could reach $1,000 are spreading on social media, fuelling a growing controversy over overheated expectations.

On Sept. 21, blockchain outlet The Crypto Basic reported that Crypto in America host Eleanor Terrett (엘리너 터렛) said her X feed that day was filled with people bickering over who was to blame for the Clarity Act failing and posts hyping XRP going to $1,000.

The controversy grew after remarks by Dom Kwok (돔 콕), a co-founder of EasyA. He did not mention XRP directly, but he has publicly pushed a $1,000 price target in the past. He also referred to a similar price outlook in April, and the latest post again stirred competing interpretations by XRP supporters and critics.

Jake Claver (제이크 클레이버), chairman of Digital Ascension Group, also said he would pay attention to the ultra-bullish outlook, citing Kwok's career. Some XRP supporters also gave weight to Kwok's remarks, pointing to experience at Goldman Sachs and Circle and his involvement with EasyA. Arguments also resurfaced that the possibility of XRP being used for cross-border payments in the long term could affect its valuation.

The $1,000 forecast is not new. In the XRP community, similar price targets have repeatedly surfaced over the past few years. In 2024, crypto exchange Uphold also posted a message asking the community what it would do if XRP reached that price.

Opposing voices are also clear. Crypto analyst Chartnerd (차트너드) dismissed the $1,000 target as an overheated expectation and warned that people should be cautious when looking at aggressive price forecasts. Vet (벳), a dUNL validator on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), also argued that investors should pay more attention to network adoption and development than to specific price targets. Vet said whether XRPL adoption expands in traditional finance could matter more than speculative price forecasts.

In the market, questions are continuing above all over the realism of the market capitalisation. XRP is currently above $1.54, and it would need to rise about 69,000 percent to reach $1,000 from that level. Assuming a circulating supply of about 63 billion tokens, the market value at the target price would reach about $63 trillion.

While doubts have been raised about whether this is achievable, Kwok has previously countered that an asset's potential value cannot be judged solely by comparing market capitalisations. In and outside the market, whether actual adoption expands and network development continues remains a bigger point of focus than the price itself.

My entire feed today is either people bickering over who’s to blame for the Clarity Act failing or hype posts about $XRP going to $1,000. ‍♀️ Back to my @Yellowstone marathon.
