[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] Layer 1 blockchain Aptos has officially launched an Encrypted Mempool feature on its mainnet.

According to Aptos, the encrypted mempool lets users choose, on a per-transaction basis, to encrypt the called functions and parameters of transactions awaiting processing. Validators determine and finalize the block order, then decrypt the transactions together and execute them.

This reduces the risk of front-running, in which someone sees another person’s trade order in advance and inserts a trade first to profit, as well as MEV (maximum extractable value) attacks.

The encrypted mempool feature is built into the Aptos consensus protocol by default. It does not require going through a separate trusted third party. Sender addresses and gas fees remain public as they are now.

The Petra Wallet wallet service currently supports the encrypted mempool. Perpetual futures trading platform Decibel also plans to integrate the feature later.
